David Hellard - Podcast Baddy, Caffeine Daddy, And an Advocate for a Life on Two Feet. Dirt Church Radio 287.

Kia ora e te whanau!
David Hellard has had a long and varied history with running. From hashing with his army dad, to reclaiming fitness in his 20’s obstacle racing, adventure racing, a love of city exploration, running everywhere, ultras, to founding the long-running and wildly-popular Bad Boy Running podcast.
David has run many of the world’s greatest marathons and has a passion for a life on two feet. Lately pivoting to creating Caffeine Bullet, a chewable caffeine source that packs a mean punch.
Proving the old adage that the degree of separation between New Zealand and the rest of the world is two degrees, David and Matt find out that they have a mutual friend (via Afghanistan!) and both being chatty and distractible embark on a conversation that can only be described as two anthropomorphic spaniels chasing a butterfly around a garden.
Enjoy!

Our mates at Squadrun have come up with a special four week training trial for listeners of DCR. Now as you’ll know from listening to DCR over the years, Squadrun is the baby of Kerry Suter and Ali Pottinger, and they have coached thousands of runners to success at a bunch of events we love and cherish and if you’ve been to any trail races on either side of the Tasman you’ll have seen the squadrun colours being represented strongly. So, if you want to give it a crack, here’s the link.

Running Is Not Therapy
– Matt
This week’s Greatest Run Ever is from our mate Ben Fraser. Ben is a force of nature and positivity, who has made some incredible strides in his well being thanks, in no small part, to taking up running. Ben nailed it though when he identified a sense of “going through the motions” and perhaps attributing more to running than it deserves. He then, very generously quoted me with my longstating cry of “running isn’t therapy”.
Sometimes, I need to be reminded of this fact, and so I went back into the writing archives and found the original article that I had written those years ago. It still stands up:
